Lagos community protests against the proposed relocation of a coastal road.

Several residents gathered on Thursday to protest at the headquarters of the Federal Ministry of Works in Lagos State, expressing their dissatisfaction with the proposed diversion of the coastal road alignment in the Okun Ajah community area.

The residents criticized the move, claiming that it was an effort by the Minister of Works, David Umahi, to show favoritism towards a particular ethnic group at the expense of other residents whose properties were situated outside the coastal road alignment.

The protesters urged President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly to launch an investigation into the planned diversion of the road in Okun Ajah, where a section had been designated for the project since 2006.

The current legislation specifies that the coastal road should follow the old alignment.

This decision was clearly communicated by the minister during discussions with stakeholders. It is imperative that financial influences and tribal affiliations do not interfere with this established plan.

The minister is well aware of the necessary course of action and must adhere to the old alignment without any deviation.
